Our Story
Bunmahon Surf School was set up with a simple goal to introduce people of all ages to surfing in a way that’s safe, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable.
Based directly on the beach in Bunmahon, along the Copper Coast in County Waterford, we’re lucky to surf one of the most beautiful and unspoilt stretches of coastline in Ireland. It’s a place we know well and care deeply about, and that local knowledge makes a real difference when it comes to teaching in the ocean.
From first-time surfers to school groups, families, and visitors from all over Ireland and beyond, our focus is always the same: confidence, fun, and respect for the sea.
Meet Your Instructor – Tadhg
Bunmahon Surf School is run by Tadhg Buckley, a local surf instructor with a deep connection to Bunmahon beach and the surrounding Copper Coast.
Tadhg has spent years surfing these waters and understands how conditions change with tides, weather, and seasons. That local knowledge plays a huge role in how lessons are run — choosing the safest spots, the best conditions, and adapting each session to suit the group.
He has a natural, relaxed teaching style that helps people feel comfortable in the water, especially first-time surfers and children. Whether it’s a school group, a family lesson, or a group of complete beginners, Tadhg’s focus is always on safety, confidence, and making sure everyone enjoys the experience.
Above all, he’s passionate about sharing surfing in a way that’s respectful of the ocean and welcoming to everyone.
What We Do
We offer surf lessons and experiences designed for beginners and groups of all kinds, including:
- Individual and group surf lessons
- School tours and youth groups
- Birthday parties, private groups, and camps
- Equipment hire
All lessons are run by qualified instructors and include wetsuits, surfboards, and clear instruction both on the beach and in the water. No previous surfing experience is needed — just a basic ability to swim and a willingness to give it a go.
Safety First, Always
Safety is at the heart of everything we do.
Lessons take place directly on the beachfront at Bunmahon, meaning there are no roads to cross, free parking nearby, and lifeguard-patrolled waters during the season. This makes the location especially suitable for children, school groups, and families.
We keep group sizes manageable to ensure proper instructor-to-participant ratios and adapt each session to suit weather, tides, and ability levels.
